RISK HAZEKAMP

Lives & works in The Hague (NL) and
  until recently Berlin (DE)

Risk Hazekamp is an independent visual artist based in The Hague and Berlin. After studying at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam and at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht, Hazekamp had solo exhibitions in different European galleries and showed work at international fairs of contemporary art such as ART COLOGNE, LISTE Basel, PHOTO MIAMI, ARCO Madrid or PARIS PHOTO. In 2010 Risk Hazekamp decided to no longer participate in commercial art fairs.

The work of Risk Hazekamp revolves around the complex and constantly changing relationship between the body and the image. For a long time, gender was the central element, not only as a subject, but also as a theoretical research framework. The questions formulated on the theme of gender were later applied to other social issues and since 2010 Hazekamp has been working on project-based visual thinking processes to change systems through a combination of personal activism, analogue photography and intersectional thinking.

Hazekamp's work is represented in public collections like Maison Européenne de la Photographie de Paris, MACBA Museum Barcelona, Gemeente Museum The Hague or Museum Arnhem. Since 2010 Hazekamp lectures at different art academies, for example: from 2010 until 2014 as tutor photography at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Maastricht and now as tutor fine art and in the minor Arts & Humanity at the AKV|St.Joost Academy in Breda.

From September 15 to October 28, 2018, a major solo exhibition will be on show about the project Social Dissolution of the West. She has been working on this project for five years. Presented for the first time at Pennings Foundation.
