Lezing - Rob Moorees

Rob Moorees is fotograaf, docent, schrijver en curator. Vanuit al deze hoedanigheden zal hij tijdens de lezing op vrijdagavond 3 november 2023 het medium fotografie benaderen.

Onder de noemer ‘Get Lost’ geeft hij een inkijkje in zijn fotografie, zijn docentschap en zijn columns.

Met ‘Stories was everything and everything was stories’ ligt het accent op de Spaarnestad Photo Collection en vertelt hij over zijn curatorschap, archiefcolumns en zijn recente project voor Museum W in Weert. Als gastcurator maakte hij voor dit museum een selectie uit de gigantische, 14 miljoen foto’s bevattende Spaarnestad Photo Collection voor de expositie ‘Stories was everything and everything was stories’ (herfst 2022- voorjaar 2023) en voegde daar eigen columns aan toe.

Spaarnestad Photo is het grootste fotoarchief van Europa, oorspronkelijk als Spaarnestad Fotoarchief gevestigd in Haarlem en nu ondergebracht in het Nationaal Archief in Den Haag.

Het bevat archieffoto’s uit alle windstreken sinds de uitvinding van de fotografie. Daaronder bevinden zich veel foto’s uit de collectie van het populaire Nederlandse weekblad ‘Het Leven’, dat verscheen tussen 1906 en 1941.

Rob Moorees (Tilburg, 1950) studeerde fotografie en publiciteit aan de AKI in Enschede. Hij is autonoom fotograaf, was als docent o.a. verbonden aan ACF in Amsterdam en iArts (Hogeschool Zuyd) in Maastricht. Voor magazine Pf en later voor SHUTR schreef hij de column ‘De Onbekende Fotograaf’ naar aanleiding van oude analoge foto's uit de Spaarnestad Photo Collection. ‘De Onbekende Fotograaf’ is een waar eerbetoon aan de vele naamloos gestorven fotografen sinds het begin van de geschiedenis van de fotografie.

In 2015 stelde Moorees als gastcurator voor Huis Marseille in Amsterdam de expositie ‘Life is Strange’ samen met foto’s uit genoemd archief en verscheen het gelijknamige boek. In 2022-2023 was de door hem samengestelde expositie ‘Stories was everything and everything was stories’, eveneens met foto’s uit dit archief, te zien in Museum W in Weert. Rob Moorees woont en werkt in Amsterdam.

Rob Moorees is a photographer, teacher, writer and curator. During the lecture on Friday evening, November 3, 2023 he will approach the medium of photography from all these capacities.

Under the title 'Get Lost' he will give an insight into his photography, his teaching and his columns.

With 'Stories was everything and everything was stories' the emphasis is on the Spaarnestad Photo Collection and he will talk about his curatorship, archive columns and his recent project for Museum W in Weert. As a guest curator for this museum, he made an extensive selection from the gigantic, 14 million photos containing Spaarnestad Photo Collection for the exhibition 'Stories was everything and everything was stories' (autumn 2022-spring 2023) and added his own columns.

Spaarnestad Photo is the largest photo archive in Europe, originally established as Spaarnestad Fotoarchief in Haarlem and now part of the National Archives in The Hague.

It contains archive photos from all over the world since the invention of photography. Among them are many photos from the collection of the popular Dutch weekly magazine 'Het Leven' (‘Life’), which appeared between 1906 and 1941.
